Alright, so yesterday was my first day and I was not able to post. Darn! Well the reason is we had soccer practice and I didn’t get home til late and I was exhausted. Anyways….
My first day was awesome! My boss is supercool, couldn’t ask for anyone better. Very flexible and accomodating. I got my Laptop and my Desk and access card, E-mail, etc. I’m official now! I took a picture of the outside of the office, I’ll post it here soon. The office is in Plano so it’s about a 40 minute drive each way. Not too bad.
Well our marketing group of about 7 people went to lunch and the company paid, very nice. Got to know everyone, they seem like very cool co-workers. Everyone was genuinely nice, that’s the key word “genuinely”!
After lunch I had a meeting with the boss, she gave me a quick run down of the company and where they are and where they expect to be. After that I got started with some projects for PPC. The boss lady hinted that I could leave around 4, but since I started at 9 I felt bad leaving early, I’m not used to that! So I left about 5:40, 20 minutes early and I still felt kinda bad.
Fastforward to today… I got in about 8:45, I like this flex start time.. LOL – I told the boss lady that I would be in from 8 to 5, she had told me I could start anywhere from 7 to 9 in the AM as long as I put in my 8 hours. The 8 to 5 thing seemed to be cool with her.
For lunch, the IT guy and I went to Mi Cocina. We talked about IT stuff and what I will be doing for the CO. He wants me to design some buttons and a flash splash page for their software for PDAs for finding Lounges. I told him I would be more that willing to help. He said just put in the request for the software I needed and he would take care of it. So obviously I will be sending in the request to get the Adobe CS3 Web Design Suite. He paid for lunch, so now I’ve had 2 days with free lunch, sweeet.
In the afternoon I had another meeting with the boss lady and got more details about the people in our department and other key people within the company and I will be setting up a 30 minute meeting with each of them so I can get info on what promotions and other things they are doing that can help me in my online marketing efforts. Then I prepared a report on some search engines and directories in the US and Latin America, places like Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, Mexico of course.
I also set up an account with Google for the US market, next will be a campaign for Latin America, then other accounts with Yahoo, Miva, SP.com (yes the previous job still lingers – lol) etc.. These are more targeted campaigns that the ones they have currently running for the UK side.
Enough for today. C ya tomorrow.

So, the new j-o-b! Yes, ok.. I used to work for Superpages.com, great company, not so great employee satisfaction, just stating the facts. Every week it seems at least 2 people jump ship. The reaason I left, no secret here, was the lack of opportunity to advance. I tried several times, I know I have the skills, I was just not given an opportunity or fair chance. To their credit, they have setup a focus group to help with employee morale and retention. I guess with all large corporate issues, it just takes time.
Speaking of chance, the new job just kindof happened, I wasn’t really looking. A friend was contacted by a recruiter for a different position with the same company and ended up turning it down. He then gave my info to the recruiter and said I may be a good fit for the company. After a couple of weeks the recruiter called me and I sent over my resume for the position of Digital Marketing Executive. They needed someone who speaks Spanish and English and has designed sites in both languages. I sent over some site examples and had a like 3 interviews.
I’ll spare you all the messy details. In all it took about 2 months for me to receive and accept an offer letter. I just turned in my 2 weeks notice about 2 weeks ago and I start my new job tomorrow, Wednesday, 9/5/07. I am very excited!! Almost forgot to mention the company name Priority Pass.
Actually I got a phone call today from my new boss to go over the details of part of my day tomorrow. In the morning (9:00 AM sharp) I will spend most of my time in HR, filling out paperwork. Then lunch with some Marketing Execs and the afternoon was not planned out yet, but I’m sure I will be doing a meet and greet probably with office personnel, and finishing any paperwork. Don’t know my desk/cube/office arrangements yet, but anything will suffice, I’m not that picky!
Oh yeah! Did I mention I may be going to London for some training in November?!?! Yes, I turned in my application for a passport last week at the post office. I have heard some horror stories of it taking forever but I paid for rush service, the attendant said it would take 4 or 5 weeks. Hope it’s here on time! Anyways, the reason is that their sister company, Vivid Lime, which does web design and online marketing, is based in London and they use a CMS that is based on Cold Fusion, so I HAVE to go there for the training, darn!
I’ll let you know how it went tomorrow!

This day and age, everyone has a blog. It’s starting to become a cliche. The last thing I wanted is to become cliche, but I couldn’t find any other way of cronichling(is that a word?) the transition from my old job to the new one, not that everyone wants to know about it, but I’m putting it here anyways. Have to leave something for the grandchildren to read…
If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.
